- What is the difference between a hydraulic and a cellular buffer?
- Hydraulic buffers absorb energy by forcing oil through a metered orifice and give the smoothest, lowest peak-force deceleration. Cellular buffers use a closed-cell elastomer and are simpler and maintenance-free for lighter duties.
- How are buffers sized?
- Sizing requires the impact mass, the impact velocity and the allowable peak deceleration. Vento can size buffers from your crane datasheet or rail rolling-stock data.
- Do Oleo buffers require maintenance?
- Hydraulic buffers should be inspected for oil leaks and rod corrosion annually. Cellular buffers are essentially maintenance-free.
