Industrial Brake Maintenance Checklist (Monthly / Quarterly / Annual)

A failsafe brake is only failsafe if it has been maintained. This checklist is structured by interval and works for Pintsch Bubenzer, Precima and Galvi installations.

Monthly

Visual inspection for oil leaks, loose fasteners and lining wear; verify release stroke and air gap; check thruster oil level; record amperage on holding coils.

Quarterly

Measure brake torque (where torque-test kit is available); cycle the brake under no-load and observe release / engage time; inspect microswitches and wear sensors.

Annual

Replace linings if at wear limit; replace thruster oil and seals; full functional test under simulated load; calibrate overspeed switch; document and trend results.

After any emergency stop

Inspect linings and disc for heat damage; verify torque; reset wear sensors.

FAQs

How long do brake linings last?
Crane main hoist linings typically run 3–7 years on a busy terminal. Conveyor service brakes can run 10+ years with infrequent stops.
Can you do the maintenance for us?
Yes — Vento provides on-site brake service across KZN and on contract for inland and Cape Town sites.
